Alpine Eco-Wildlife Observatory of the door of the Aprica Park: an extensive area of over 20 hectares, well delimited in its borders, inside which winds up an equipped naturalistic-didactic path, which is easy to cover, and along which the visitor has the opportunity to get to know nature and observe the vegetal species and the animals present in the park to almost touch them. The Alpine Eco-Wildlife Observatory is a structure unique in its kind. Along the naturalistic-didactic itinerary, are “Wildlife Areas” inside which are hosted samples of Alpine fauna very difficult to observe in Nature and with particular reference to the species in danger of extinction such as the Wood-grouse which is also the symbol of the Parco Orobie of Valtellina.

Pian di Gembro Natural Reserve: The peat bog of Pian di Gembro is a Partial Botanic Nature Reserve situated in the Municipality of Villa di Tirano between Aprica and Trivigno. The origin of the peat bog dates back to the last freezing, around ten thousand years ago, when a tongue of the Adda glacier flowed down towards that of Oglio, modelling the valley of Pian di Gembro, then occupied by a lake which in the course of years has been invaded with vegetal debris. The acidity of the ground and lack of oxygen have slowed down the processes of decomposition of the vegetal material favouring the formation of a layer of peat. In the first years of the century the extraction of peat for industrial purposes got underway; the activity, suspended some decades ago, if on the one side has deeply modified the landscape giving way to decorticate and puddle areas, on the other side has slowed down the covering of the peat bog and the disappearance of the vegetal species characteristic of these environments. The vegetation of Pian di Gembro presents some species, typical of the post-glacial periods, rare to find in our zones and therefore of particular botanical interest such as the swamp Blueberry, the Andromeda polifolia and the Equiseto. Equally important is the presence of carnivorous plants such as the Drosera and the Pinguicola of the covered zones or the Utricularia of the water swamps. The setting in its whole complex integrates with an animal component characterised by the presence of dragonflies belonging to various species, amphibians, such as the cristate newts, salamanders and frogs, as well as reptiles such as the water viper. An ideal place for relaxing summer walks while winter welcomes the fans of Nordic skiing.
