An agricultural village, surrounded with vine trees where the best DOCG wines of Valtellina are produced and characterised by apple orchards of Stark and Delicious. A landmark is the wine producing estate “La Gatta”, which is found in a small and suggestive Dominican convent. Of particular importance is the small Besta palace, the Parochial Church of Saint Siro and the Piano Sanctuary.

An old village of renowned notoriety. To be visited: the remains of the Visconti Venosta Villa, the Church of Saint Faustino, the Visconti Venosta House, the House of Cipriano Valorsa, the Parochial Church of Saint Joseph, the Church of Saint George and the Rupestrian Incisions. For nature orientated walks, one should not forget the Grosina Valley.

A small historic village once divided in quarters, it conserves interesting medieval architectonic particulars and typical houses of the 1400/1500 period. Among the monuments: the renowned Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Grazie and the Parochial Church of Saint Eusebio. Walking among the distinguished dwelling and the historic chapels, one can admire the oldest and most beautiful fountain-public washhouse of the whole Valtellina (1695).

A tranquil agricultural village surrounded with orchards and chestnut fields. Not to be missed are the Parochial Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie (1596), the Church of the Annunciation of Saint Augustine (XIII century) and the Church of Saint Alexander (XI century) with its Romanic style bell tower.

Mazzo di Valtellina - 552 a.s.l. - pop. 1045
It is a historic village where the agricultural activity such as the breeding of livestock, the cultivation of fruit trees is quite alive. From here the road starts going upwards circuitously along the slopes of the Orobico mountainside, leads to the Mortirolo pass and then to the province of Brescia; the route chosen for one of the most spectacular and selective stages of the Giro D'Italia (“Tour of Italy”).

A village which is still essentially agricultural and placed beneath a wide stretch of orchards where the highly prized apples of Valtellina are cultivated. Its historic centre is gathered around its churches: the Parochial Church of Saint Cosma and Saint Damian (XIII century), the Church of the Madonna delle Grazie (XVII century).

Teglio - 851 a.s.l. - ab 4797
The name Valtellina is believed to be derived exactly from Teglio, “from Tellina Vallis”, a witness of the importance which in the past the splendid village held, placed on a wide terrace sunned by the Retiche Alps, with a landscape which is really unequalled. It is a renowned and equipped tourist centre, wherein skiing along the slopes of Prato Valentino (2070 m) in winter is possible. History and traditions are not lacking: of notorious importance is the Besta Palace, one of the most known Valtellinese monuments, a singular family dwelling in the typical Renaissance style and the "De li beli miri" Tower, part of an ancient castle which once dominated the valley.

Tirano - 450 a.s.l. - pop. 9044
A very ancient main city of the Terziere Superiore already inhabited in the prehistoric era. During the middle Ages the built-up area was enriched with castles and fortifications, of which today remain only the ruins. It has become famous in the XVI century for the miraculous apparition of Our Lady (29.09.1504) and for the construction of the Sanctuary dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. The Basilica of Our Lady is today the most important religious monument of Valtellina. Of notable tourist interest are the tours on board the Bernina Express Train of the Retica Railways of Tirano, which overpasses Valposchiavo and the Bernina Pass, connecting Valtellina to Engadina, to arrive to the renowned St. Moritz. A trip considered to be among the most interesting of the world.

Tovo S. Agata - 538 a.s.l. - pop. 569
A small village situated at the beginning of a wide plain. Worth visiting are the Parochial Church of Saint Agatha, (XVII century), the oratory of Saint Ippolito and Saint Cassiano (XV century) and the Bellaguarda Castle (XIV century). The registered office of the Fruit and Vegetable Cooperative of Alta Valtellina (Cooperativa Ortofrutticola Alta Valtellina - COAV) is in Tovo. The COAV coordinates the harvesting and the commercialization of the highly prized Valtellinese apples of the Terziere Superiore.

While travelling along the Trunk Road which leads from Tirano to Bormio, on the Retico side, at the feet of mount Masuccio beyond the river Adda, is Vervio, a small rural village, starting point for excursions of an unusual attraction, the Italia path, the Schiazzera lakes to reach later on the Swiss Valposchiavo.

Villa di Tirano - 420 a.s.l. - pop. 2968
An old village surrounded by patterns of age-old viticulture, with the characteristic terraced vineyards, centre of renowned wine-producing Firms intent on the production of highly prized Valtellinese DOC and DOCG wines. Also famous are their apple orchard products (Stark and Golden). In the municipality of Villa is the Natural Reserve of Pian di Gembro, an old peat bog of rare Alpine flora, where in the winter period a track for the long distance skiing is traced, which enables the cherishers of this speciality to enjoy the glamour of a landscape of inestimable value.
