In spring, summer and early autumn, Valtellina offers large opportunities for sport and recreation in contact with nature and it is becoming ever more a tourist destination in these seasons. In harmony with the much coveted “open air holiday”, here one may practice, given the conformity and the climate of the Valley, all the sports, both the summer ones and the winter ones, thanks to the various altitudes for which it distinguishes itself: from the 400 metres at the bottom of the valley one can arrive to the 3,000 metres of the peaks.
In this period the territory offers the possibility of various walks with kilometres and kilometres of the most variegated tracks and in the most suggestive valleys. The springs and summers in Valtellina are the ideal place for the “long holidays”, immersed in tranquillity but with no time to get annoyed, thanks to the tranquillity which accompanies the liveliness of a nature which invites you to silence, far away from the city dins. The ideal climate to visit the most secluded zones, where the snow has just melted and the landscape is uncontaminated. It is a territory which attracts even the likings of those who are keen on a sun tan, and who can benefit of the sun by lying down in a meadow or outside by the present swimming pools. Valtellina offers opportunities for all tastes and for all ages. Without forgetting the culture, with the possibility of enriching the holiday with short tours to get to know and admire all the historic, cultural, artistic and religious patrimony which the course of history has donated to Valtellina: indelible signs of a past which villages, walls and ancient doors, palaces, museums, churches and basilicas bear witness. Unique places like the Park of Rupestrian Incisions, where the prehistoric Reti carved on stone graffiti representing scenes of everyday life. One goes discovering a culture which is also enogastronomic, with tours to discover the tastes, the perfumes and therefore the customs of the people of the area. Interesting opportunities of exceptional spectactularity, like the panoramic ride with the Bernina Express Train of Bernina, the highest in Europe.
Among the sports, cycling in all its forms for the ardent followers filled with glory from the achievements of the Giro d’Italia, with the passes of the Mortirolo, Stelvio, Gavia, Santa Cristina and Aprica and many others; for those who prefer less demanding tours one finds the cycle-track at the bottom of the valley, suitable for everybody, and which unites all the Municipalities of the 'Terziere Superiore'.
One can also enjoy oneself with angling, horse riding and paragliding for the most intrepid. One can also attend the athletic structures with which all the Valtellina centres are equipped, with tennis courts, golf courses and bowls courts, swimming pools, archery and target shooting.
