Autumn is the ideal period, considering the favourable climate (the summer heat would have passed and the austere winter would not have started), for all the tours of cultural, religious, historic, enogastronomic and naturalistic character, when one can move about in all freedom along the valley and its mountains, where one can go for walks along the old paths and where the glamour of nature is intact. In autumn, Valtellina celebrates the gifts of the earth, with festivals dedicated to the apple, the grape, the chestnut and the small fruits. One should not miss out on a walk in the chestnut fields in the neighbourhood of the towns of Terziere Superiore, where the chestnut husks open dropping the chestnuts, or along the terraces, where autumn sees the farmers engaged in harvesting. 

 

It is a season ideal also to visit the workshops of the few remaining artisans, who with mastership manufacture various articles, from the furniture of Valtellina to the patchwork carpets, from works on ollare stone, copper and iron, and those in wood.
